June 2025 Google Core Algorithm Update

Google launched a key algorithm update on June 30, 2025. The update will take several weeks to take effect, but it focuses on helping search engines identify and rank useful, high-quality content. Red Canyon Media is here to help business owners and marketing agencies understand how the updates will affect their content and websites.

Understanding Algorithm Changes

Here are a few key areas where Google has shifted its focus:

  • Content Quality: Stronger emphasis on depth, accuracy, and real expertise.
  • AI Content: Better filtering of filler content and highlighting material that offers genuine value.
  • Mobile Factors: Core Web Vitals, mobile usability, and ad placement now weigh more heavily in rankings.
  • SERP Visibility: Pages may show up differently in Featured Snippets, PAA, AI Overviews, or Google Discover.
  • Local Searches: Businesses may experience changes in Google Maps rankings that are influenced by the relevance of their content.

Tracking Ranking Shifts

After the update launched, tools like Semrush, Mozcast, and Sistrix started showing signs of ranking changes. The first changes occurred around July 2-3, followed by another wave around July 9-10 that appeared to affect newer sites. Instead of overnight shifts, these updates are rolling out in phases, so businesses might see gradual changes rather than immediate jumps or drops. Websites that were negatively affected by past Helpful Content Updates are regaining visibility, appearing more frequently in Featured Snippets, People Also Ask (PAA) boxes, and AI-generated summaries. Reactions on Reddit have ranged from users reporting solid gains to others seeing only minor changes.

Impacting Website Content

The recent update may impact rankings for different types of content in search results. Google has also adjusted how it looks at content quality. For businesses or individuals who post their own content, such as blog posts, FAQs pages, and instructional articles, how they utilize AI can impact the trustworthiness of their content. AI content influences the authoritativeness of your website when evaluated through Google’s E-E-A-T framework. Sites that produce detailed, original content that genuinely answers user questions fare better, while filler or repetitive content may not perform well.

Google still uses the E-E-A-T (Expertise, Experience, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness) framework. This structure helps Google identify content that meets user needs. Technical details also matter with this new update. Fast-loading pages, easy navigation, and an organized mobile design help Google perceive your content as valuable.

Improving Site Performance

While it is best to wait before making large structural changes after the update, here are a few smaller steps to take:

  1. Monitor your analytics using tools like Google Search Console to track fluctuations.
  2. Refresh or remove outdated content.
  3. Use Google’s Content Quality Questions to evaluate your pages.
  4. Improve mobile-friendly content and page load speeds.
  5. Remember that Google uses mobile-first indexing, so how your site performs on mobile versus desktop devices directly impacts rankings.
  6. Simplify your page design and reduce intrusive advertisements.
  7. Obtain high-quality backlinks.
  8. Use structured data like reviews, FAQs, and local details to increase visibility in SERPs.
  9. Explore video and interactive content to keep visitors engaged.

Reassessing Site Strategies

Now that the rollout has completed, review the metrics on your website. If you notice minimal growth or drops in your ranking, look for ways to improve your content. Comparing your performance against that of competitors will also highlight areas for improvement or your strengths. You can also begin preparing for the next update cycle, which is likely to occur in August or September.
