What is Social Bookmarking?  A long time ago before Google, sites popped up allowing you to bookmark websites that allow you to access your list from any computer. SEO companies started using it as a variation of link spamming.

Social Bookmarking is so 2009.  In fact I started doing this in 2009.  In 2015 by running tests I figured out it didn’t help a client at all.  I only know one company that still is doing this out of all the SEO Fulfillment companies I know, which is a lot.

Over the past 11 years though Google as evolved.  As fast as people try to “game” the search engine they are just as good as shutting those people down.

Google is so much better at detecting real value sites and it isn’t from links on social bookmarking sites.

Google employees have even spoken out about it clearly telling us Google will ignore those sites. Here is a quote from Search Engine Journal who talked to John Mueller of Google. You can read the whole article here.

“The strategy of using “social bookmarking” for links in order to improve rankings is not recommended because it is ineffective. Using social bookmarking sites for links does not work to improve rankings. Google ignores those links.”

So why are SEO companies still using these tactics?  The simple answer is they would rather take your money than provide a valuable product.   Why are they getting away with it?  I’m not sure of the answer.  But if you are still using a white label SEO partner doing this, I would stop wasting your clients money.
